ONE OF A KIND — THIS PHILIPSBORNITE DOESN’T EVEN LOOK REAL.
Every once in a while you see a mineral that makes you wonder how the Earth possibly created it.
This extraordinary Philipsbornite from the Yanga Koubenza quarries, M’fouati, Republic of Congo is one of those specimens.
The COLOR is absolutely next level. Deep electric cobalt-blue transitions into brilliant turquoise and icy blue, creating incredible natural zoning across the entire piece. Then you get that wild botryoidal texture — layers of bubbly, sculptural formations that give the specimen an almost otherworldly appearance.
It looks like a miniature landscape from another planet.
And that’s what makes this one so special: it isn’t simply a rare mineral species. It has presence, color, texture and composition — the qualities that turn a rare-species specimen into something truly memorable.
Philipsbornite is a rare lead-iron arsenate mineral, and fine Congo examples with this kind of intense blue coloration and aesthetics are exactly the pieces I love hunting for.
