Lightbox sessions with a legendary Denton Mine fluorite just hit different
Sitting here admiring this absolute classic as the filmlight cuts through the cubes and brings the zoning alive from every angle. Deep electric blues melting into rich purples with those unmistakable Denton “blurple” tones collectors chase so hard. The way this piece glows in the lightbox almost doesn’t look real.
From the iconic Denton Mine in Hardin County, Illinois — one of the most famous American fluorite localities ever discovered. Operating from 1981 to 1994, the mine produced some of the finest color-zoned cubic fluorites in the world, often paired with calcite, sphalerite, and metallic chalcopyrite. The sharp geometry and saturated color on these old classics are nearly impossible to replicate.
With the locality long closed, pieces like this continue getting tougher to source… especially examples that absolutely come alive under strong lighting like this one. Pure Illinois fluorite magic.
