I am completely enamored with the colors of this Minerva Fluorite . Minerva fluorite is highly prized for its vibrant, gemmy crystals from the Minerva No. 1 Mine in Illinois. Operating from the 1940s to 1996, this mine is renowned for producing exceptional fluorite specimens, particularly from the “Bluecap” pocket. Key characteristics of Minerva Fluorite include: Color & Zoning: Icy blue, cornflower blue, yellow, and rare amber tones with distinctive phantom zoning. Form & Luster: Sharp, cubic, gem-like crystals with hoppered growth or “toadstool” formations. Fluorescence: Bright blue or white fluorescence under UV light due to hydrocarbon inclusions. Associations: Frequently found with calcite, baryte, and chalcopyrite. Provenance: Highly valued by collectors due to the mine’s closure and limited availability of top-tier specimens. The Minerva No. 1 Mine was a significant source of industrial fluorspar before gaining fame for its display-quality mineral specimens.
