SOLD New Arrival Such a beauty with insane etchings Ukrainian Heliodor 35.6 grams krainian heliodor, a golden-yellow to greenish-yellow variety of beryl known as a “gift of the sun,” is world-renowned for its high gem quality, brilliant luster, and intricate, naturally etched, or “window-like” crystal surfaces. Primarily mined in the Volyn region (Khoroshiv Raion) since the 1980s, these rare, often large, and highly coveted specimens typically display intense color and exceptional, often flawless, clarity. Key Features of Ukrainian Heliodor Color: Ranging from vibrant golden yellow to greenish-yellow, often with a “lively glow”. Etching/Structure: Many crystals are heavily etched or “sculptural” due to natural, late-stage dissolution in pegmatite pockets, giving them a unique, complex appearance. Clarity: Known for being exceptionally clean, with many specimens displaying gem-grade transparency. Size: The deposits have produced large, high-quality crystals, though smaller, high-quality specimens are also highly prized. Locality: Primarily sourced from the Volodarsk-Volynskii (Khoroshiv) area in northwestern Ukraine, a region famous for pegmatite minerals. History and Rarity Discovery: While mining in the area began earlier for quartz, significant, high-quality heliodor, along with aquamarine and topaz, gained international attention in the 1980s. Significance: Ukrainian heliodors are widely considered the benchmark for the variety, often setting the standard for color and form. Scarcity: Due to the decline in mining operations after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the challenges of, now, inoperable or dormant mines, fine Ukrainian heliodor is increasingly rare on the market.
