Palm trees, sunshine, and Denton magic
Out in the California sun filming this absolute stunner of a fluorite, and every turn in the light reveals something new. This beautiful piece comes from the legendary Denton Mine in Hardin County, Illinois, one of the most iconic fluorite localities in the United States. Under natural sunlight the cubes explode with those famous Denton colors — deep blues, rich purples, and flashes of warm zoning that collectors lovingly call that classic “blurple.”
The Denton Mine operated from 1981 to 1994 and produced some of the most intensely colored cubic fluorites ever discovered. Known for their sharp geometry, satiny-to-glassy luster, and dramatic color zoning, these specimens quickly became collector favorites. They’re often associated with golden calcite, sphalerite, and metallic chalcopyrite, adding even more character to pieces from this famous pocket-rich district.
With the mine long closed, beauties like this are becoming harder and harder to come by — true classics that shine even brighter when you catch them dancing in the sunlight.
